Fort de Regret lies roughly 4 km to the southeast of Verdun on a sloped hill near the outskirts of the Thierville Forest. Constructed between 1905-1908, this fortress has largely been forgotten by historians and the public due to its distance from the front lines and subsequent inaction during the battle. However, the quietness of this sector means that Fort de Regret remained remarkeable untouched by shellfire and both the interior and exterior of the fortress are in almost pristine condition.
