Douaumont Ossuary
The ossuary at Douaumont contains the remains of over 130,000 unidentified soldiers from both the German and French armies who fought and died during the battle of Verdun. In front of the structure lies an additional 16,000 French army war graves which comprises the largest single French military cemetery of the First World War, inaugurated in 1923. The ossuary itself was officially inaugurated in 1932, however remains are still being found across the battlefield to this day.
