The Citizens of Verdun monument, also known as the War Memorial of the Citizens of Verdun, is a statue depicting the five arms of service of the French Army which fought during the Battle of Verdun in 1916; cavalrymen, engineer sappers, infantrymen, artillerymen, and reservists. It lies directly across from the Porte Chausee on the opposite bank of the Meuse River on the former site of a French military slaughterhouse. Constructed in 1928, it honors the citizens of Verdun who died during the battle.
