Project Gutenberg is an online database dedicated to the free sharing of electronic works of literature by authors from around the world. Its mission is to provide unobstructed access to these works to encourage readers who may not have a way of viewing these texts in person. As of 2024, Project Gutenberg provides access to over 60,000 individual works of literature which all fall under public domain. The only stipulations to this rule are that no alterations to the texts can be made, and if a distributor wishes to sell their books they must give a portion of those earnings to Project Gutenberg.
