Introductory Blog Post

My name is Maximilian Smith, I am a first year master’s student at GMU majoring in History, with a concentration in modern European history. My area of interest primarily focuses on western Europe from the belle epoque period to the end of the First World War. I graduated Saint Michael’s College in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Some of my previous projects have included a 3d digital map which demonstrates the variety of national origins of French soldiers who fought during the battle of Verdun, and a thesis on the Cult of the Offensive within the French Army during the late 19th century. Last summer I worked for the Marconi RCA radio museum in Chatham, MA, which focuses on the story of the ship to shore radio system developed by Guglielmo Marconi to assist with navigation and communication of commercial maritime vessels. I hope that this course will help me to expand my technical capabilities and allow me to improve upon the operations of museums I have been a part of going forward.
